Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero was on Monday named the 15th Emir of Kano following the dethronement of Muhammad Sanusi II by the Kano state government.
Aminu, a Mass Communication graduate of Bayero University, Kano, was first appointed as district head of Nasarawa in 1990 by his late father.
Before being named the emir of Bichi, Ado Bayero was named district head of Nassarawa and Dan Maje Kano in 1990 by his late father Ado Bayero.
“ Let me say that it is God that gives power and position and in His infinite and supremacy, He bestows such power and position to whom He so desires. Let me cite this example; I was appointed a district head and Dan Maje Kano in 1990 by my late father. From Dan Maje, I was promoted to Dan Buran Kano. From Dan Buran, I was elevated to Turakin Kano and later moved to another higher post as Sarkin Dawakin Sakarin Gida Kano,” the monarch was quoted by The Guardian in 2019.
Emir Ado Bayero was later promoted to Dan Buran Kano and then named Turakin Kano. He then moved to Sarkin Dawakin Sakarin Gida Kano before elevated to Wamban Kano and then most recently emir of Bichi.
Abubakar Sadiq remembers: “I remember in 1992 when I was on my MBA program in kano, the same Aminu was a district head, I think Nasarawa then, and he was invited as a royal father to an event organised by kwarai state students in BUK. I was exchanging gist with some undergraduates when one of them told me that,” you see that man, he will be the emir of kanoone day”. I doubt that not because he was not eligible but because I know the average kano man will always prefer a prince whose both parents are from kano. The chap told me that he heard from his father that the son of the woman brought from Ilorin will be the next emir of kano from ado Bayero siblings. I laughed him off. I wasn’t a believer in superstition then. But with the events of yesterday, I have cause to respect our fore father’s spiritual acumen.
