Management of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has ordered the closure of the commission’s corporate headquarters.

An internal memo on Thursday signed for the management by Silas Anyanwu directed all staff to vacate the headquarters.

It was learnt that the closure was triggered by the death of a member of the NDDC’s Interim Management Committee (IMC), Ibanga Etang.

The memo also stated that the building would be closed for two weeks with immediate effect and would be fumigated.

“Meanhwile, staff are enjoined to go into self-isolation for two weeks as they await further direcyive from management,” the memo read.

This raises concerns that Mr Etang might have died of the coronavirus.

Etang was NDDC’s acting executive director of finance and administration.

He reportedly died at about 2am on Thursday at the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH), Port Harcourt.
