  1. An NGO, Lola Caters for the Needy Foundation, on Saturday, took its “Pick that Thrash” campaign to the New Kuchingoro Internally Displaced Persons Camp (IDPs) in Abuja.

The Founder of the Foundation, Miss Ololade Ogunnubi, who led her team to the camp, said that the campaign was meant to emphasise the need for personal and environmental hygiene.

According to her, the cleaning exercise is meant to also sensitise the IDPs on the health benefits of proper waste disposal and clean environment.

“We want them to have an attitudinal change from what they are used to, and for them to also know the benefit of cleaning their environment, as it would help them to stay healthy.

“This is where they live; so we want them to imbibe everyday cleaning of their environment as a culture.

“We also want the government to make the camp more habitable, as most of them live in makeshift buildings not worthy of living,” she said.

Ogunnubi also added that the Foundation would be teaching the women and girls on how to recycle plastics as a source of income.

She added that it was necessary for them to be industrious, saying this would help in alleviating poverty.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the exercise, held in collaboration with Water Wide and Pick That Thrash, featured distribution of cloths, school bags and food stuffs as well as free medical check up for the IDPs.
