The Niger State Independent Electoral Commission (NSIEC) has declared its readiness to conduct the forthcoming Local Government elections in the state.

This was disclosed by the Commission chairman, Alhaji Aminu Baba during a meeting with the Commissioner of Police and the 25 Divisional Police Officers in the state, at the Police Officers Mess, Minna, on Thursday.

He was represented by Alhaji Yakuwu Mohammad, the Commissioner in charge Security and Operation of the body.

NAN reports that the Local Government Election would hold on Sept. 30.

He said that the commission had taken measures as well as given all the political parties a level playing ground to ensure a credible election.

The chairman said that all the materials needed for the conduct of the election had been made available.

He said the election would be conducted in the 25 local government areas of the state.

Speaking earlier, the commissioner of police, Alhaji Usman Adamu, told the gathering that the police were ready to provide security during and after the election across the 25 local government areas.

Adamu, however, called on leaders of political parties to preach political tolerance and understanding to their supporters.

He warned that the police and other security agencies would not tolerate violence and thuggery, before, during and after the election.

” Those of them preparing for ‘fire for fire’ must be ready to bear the consequences of their actions which are designed to undermine this particular democratic process.

He said that the police would remain proactive and would not rest on their oars in the task of providing peaceful political atmosphere for the smooth implementation of the electoral process without threats to lives and property.

”Residents are requested to be law abiding and go about their lawful duties and to report bad elements to the nearest security outfits for necessary action,” the commissioner said.
