The Chief of Army Staff of Nigeria, Ibrahim Attahiru, has been killed in a plane crash in Kaduna, Military sources said.

Attahiru with some of his assistants was being flown in a military aircraft which crashed near the old regional capital, Kaduna apparently with no survivors.

Nigeria is involved in a decade long war against terrorists styled as Boko Haram and lately ISWAP, and increased cases of banditry and kidnapping in many parts of the West African countries.

Attahiru had just been appointed as Army Chief with a renewed resolve to take the battles head-on.

The Nigerian military has of recent been involved in a spate of mishaps, including one earlier this year, involving a reconnaissance aircraft near the nation’s capital city, Abuja, with no survivors.

Nigeria’s ace celebrity combat pilot with many sorties to her wing in the Boko Haram war, Flight Office Arotile, was also killed in a road accident within the Military Barracks in Kaduna.
