NLC protest: Protesters will be secured, IGP assured

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba has assured that the Force will ensure adequate security as the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) prepares to embark on its strike.

IGP Alkali Baba in a strategic meeting on Monday with police managers, said the Force is preparing for any possible security threat.

The police boss therefore charged his men to double their efforts to maintain peace and security within the period.

He added that three thousand, six hundred and nineteen (3,619) suspects have been arrested for participation in various crimes across the country.

According to him, the police will do everything professionally possible to ensure that the nation’s peace is not threatened even as the people exercise their civic responsibilities.

The IGP’s statement comes on the heels of comments by the NLC, threatening to have Nigerian workers go on strike in protest against the hike of petrol pump price following the removal of subsidy.

The NLC gave the Federal Government until Wednesday, May the 7th, to reverse the pump price or risk an industrial action that country further plunge the nation’s economy.

Efforts by President Muhammadu Buhari to meet with the Union are yet to yield results.
