Okonjo-Iweala in pole position for WTO DG – Reports

Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala is set to emerge as the new director-general of the World Trade Organisation, according to reports.

The former finance minister is expected to clinch the position by a wide margin against South Korean Yoo Myung hee.

Mrs. Okonjo-Iweala received widespread support from Africa and other continents for her role.

She was a former World Bank executive who has sat on the boards of several international organisations, including Twitter and the Global Vaccine Alliance.

She was recently backed by ths European Union member nations backed against Ms. Myung hee, who was supported by the United States.

An official announcement is expected by 3pm Nigerian time.
