Omah Lay, Tems regain freedom from Ugandan Prison

Nigerian musicians, Stanley Omah Didia a.k.a Omah Lay and Temilade Openiyi a.k.a Tems have been released in Uganda.

The duo was arrested for violating the COVID-19 protocols in the East African nation.

As tweeted by Ugandan musician, Bebe Cool on his Twitter handle, the artists were freed on Tuesday and are likely to return to Nigeria soon.

Ugandan Journalist, Canary Mugume also confirmed the development via his Twitter account.

“Nigerian artist @omah_Lay and @temsbaby have been released 5 minutes ago and might fly out tonight, @lukowoyesigyre has confirmed. #NBSUpate @nbstv,” Mugume wrote.

“They were earlier charged to the Chief Magistrate Court of Makindye of Makindye, the Republic of Uganda on Wednesday, December 15, 2020 and have been released and free of all charges concerning the violation of COVID-19 protocol laid down by the Uganda government.

“This was signed by Magistrate Okumu Jude Muwone. The Order release for Awoniyi and Omah Lay read:

“WHEREAS the Accused persons As MUYIWA AWONIYI and As STANLEY OMAH DIDIA, were charged with the offence of Neglect act likely to spread of infectious disease.
Section 171 of Penal Code Act.

“The charges against the Accused As STANLEY OMAH DIDIA and As MUYIWA AWONIYI, has been withdrawn against them Vide withdrawal form from serial No. 4292 dated 14 December 2020

“This is to direct you to release As MUYIWA AWONIYI and A-STANLEY OMAH DIDIA the said accused persons from your custody forthwith unless held on other charges.”

“The release order for Tems read:

“WHEREAS the Accused person A TEMILADE OPENYI was charged with the offence of Neglect act likely to spread of infectious disease Section 171 of Penal Code Act.

“The charges against the accused A TEMILADE OPENYI has been withdrawn against them Vide Withdrawal Form Serial No, 4292 dated 1st December 2020.

“This is to direct you to release the said A. TEMILADE OPENYI from your custody forthwith unless held on other charges.”

Omah Lay’s manager was arrested and also freed.
