Ondo lawmakers reject call to serve in Akeredolu’s COVID-19 Palliative Committee, assert legislative autonomy

Ondo lawmakers have rejected the opportunity to serve in Governor Rotimi Akeredolu’s constituted palliative committee, vowing never to play second fiddle to the executive.

The lawmakers who gave their resolve during a meeting held on , Monday, claimed they are the elected representatives of the people and will not stoop low to serve under any cabinet member.

In a statement released through the spokesperson of the House of Assembly, Hon Olugbenga Omole, the lawmakers commended the effort of the state Governor in constituting the palliative committee but however disagreed with the governor’s expression that the House of Assembly members will work as assistants to the committee members.

The meeting which was presided over by the Speaker of the House Rt.Hon David Bamidele Oleyelogun, had in attendance all the lawmakers who passed a vote of confidence on the Speaker, Deputy Speaker, Majority Leader and other principal officers.

Out of 254 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the country as at Tuesday, Ondo has one.
