Ondo man kills peacemaker over N700

An Ondo State Magistrates’ Court sitting in Akure, has remanded a man, Funmilayo Asojo, in a custodial centre for allegedly stoning a peacemaker, Bamidele Adewole, to death.

The man was reported to have thrown a stone which had hit Bamidele while he (victim) was trying to settle a rift.

The rift, which had started between Funmilayo and another man, had resulted from a debt, N700, the man had owed him at Ute town, Owo Local Government Area on December 28, 2022.

The victim, a 59-year-old security guard of a public primary school, was allegedly hit on the head with a stone during the course of the fight. He was rushed to the hospital where he died two days later.

Funmilayo was remanded and arraigned on one count of murder.

The prosecutor, Augustine Omhenemhen, urged the court to remand the defendant in the Olokuta Custodial Center till the outcome of advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions.

According to the prosecution, the offence contravenes sections 319 and 355 of the Criminal Code Law, Cap. 37 Vol. II Laws of Ondo State, 2006.

The Magistrate in sitting, R.O. Yakubu adjourned the case till March 19, 2023, after the defendant has been ordered to remain in the custody of the officials.
