Two of Nigeria’s representatives in CAF club competitions, Plateau United and Kano Pillars, have been eliminated following goalless draws on Saturday.
Plateau United needed to win away from home against Simba of Tanzania after having lost 1-0 in Jos last weekend.
The Tanzanians held on and kept the clean sheet they needed to advance to the second round of the CAF Champions League.
In the CAF Confederation Cup, Kano Pillars needed to score at least twice to progress but they were held to a 0-0 draw in Kaduna by Senegal’s AS Jaaraf.
The Senegalese won the first leg 3-1 and they advanced 3-1 on aggregate.
Two more Nigerian clubs will hope to do better on Sunday in their own continental clashes.
Two-time African champions Enyimba welcome Rahimo FC of Burkina Faso to Aba with the Nigerians having won 1-0 away.
The Elephant of Aba only need to avoid home defeat to reach the second round of the CAF Champions League.
Also on Sunday, Rivers United have to beat Futuro Kings of Equatorial Guinea in Port Harcourt to advance in the CAF Confederation Cup.
The Nigerian side lost the first leg 2-1 in Equatorial Guinea.
