Former Military Governor of Lagos and Imo States, Rear Admiral Ndubuisi Kanu (retd.), has died at the age of 77.

Kanu’s death was confirmed by his associate and ally, Mrs Joe Okei-Odumakin, on Wednesday but the cause was not disclosed.

“I can confirm that he has passed on. This is very sad news. A statement will be issued soon,” she said.

Kanu was appointed into the Supreme Military Council headed by the late Head of State, Gen. Murtala Muhammed, in 1975 and ended up as a human rights activist after leaving the military.

He then went ahead to join the pro-democracy movement, NADECO, where he played a significant role in the agitation for the actualisation of the annulled June 12, 1993 presidential election.
