Reggae icon Majek Fashek is dead

Reggae singer, Majekodunmi Fasheke, popularly called Majek Fashek, is dead.

His manager, Omenka Uzoma, confirmed the death in a video shared on social media on Tuesday morning.

“Today been having pressure calls, well it is true that the African No 1 Legendary ICON has gone to be with the LORD his Maker.

“Let’s celebrate him, his achievements and his family. Whatever decisions made by his immediate family will be notified.”

Born in Benin City, Edo State, Majek is best known for his 1988 album, Prisoner of Conscience, which has the multiple award-winning single ‘Send Down the Rain’.

He spent the better part of the last two decades of his life suffering alcohol addiction.

  1. Poor Majek! Let him rest from the troubles of life. We missed his voice for so long and now he is dead. I recall when we were kids late 80s and early 90s, when his song was played on our black and white TV, once we hear the musical sound in the beginning of the song, we’d left all we are doing and rush in to watch “The Rain Maker” Rest in Peace Uncle Majek we love. My condolences to his family.
