The lawmaker representing Lagos Central, Senator Remi Tinubu, has come under fire for calling a woman a thug during the public hearing of the constitutional review on Wednesday.

Tinubu, who is leading the Senate Committee on Review of the 1999 constitution in the south-west, was involved in a shouting match with some members of the public who attended the event at the Marriot Hotel in Lagos.

It was gathered that residents queued to register before they were allowed into the venue of the event.

However, when the state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, came in through the back door, the front door was shut and the registration closed.

Those who were yet to register reportedly stayed in the queue, protesting their exclusion from the event.

Some lawmakers from Oyo State, who passed the queue and were about to be ushered into the programme, were allegedly followed by some residents, causing commotion.

The wife of the All Progressives Congress’ (APC) national leader Bola Tinubu reportedly showed up at the backdoor to allow the lawmakers in.

But a woman spoke openly after the alleged partial treatment.

It was at this time that Tinubu called the woman a thug for speaking too loudly.

The woman protested, resulting in a commotion as Tinubu exchanged words with her.

“I will not apologise for what I said. I saw it and I said it,” Tinubu reportedly said.

The Lagos lawmaker had recently come under criticism over a verbal attack on Senator Smart Adeyemi after the latter said the current insecurity challenges in the country is threatening Nigeria’s existence.

During a plenary session on insecurity, Adeyemi spoke emotionally for over five minutes, describing the current state as the worst so far.

But Tinubu seemed disgusted by her fellow party member’s comments.

“I’m a party man and I’m supporting APC but it has gotten to a point that as supporters we cannot keep quiet,” Adeyemi had said.

“This is the worst instability we are facing. In fact, this is worse than the civil war.”

While Adeyemi continued venting his anger at the “killing, maiming, insecurity in the country,” Tinubu who sat beside the senator interjected.

“Are you in PDP? Are you a wolf in sheep’s clothing?,” Mrs Tinubu said rebuking the lawmaker.

Adeyemi, however, ignored his colleague.
