Rice production in Jigawa boosted by CBN’s N4bn to farmers in the last six years

The production of rice in Jigawa State has been given a boost with a disbursement of N4billion to farmers in the state by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) under the anchor borrower programme in Jigawa State in the last six years.

The CBN programme coordinator in Dutse office, Alhaji Abdu Amadu, made this known in his speech while flagging-up the distribution of 2021 dry season rice farming materials in Dutse the state’s capital.

Amasu said the anchor borrower program was introduced by the apex bank in 2015 with an aim of supporting small scale farmers in the country.

Speaking further, the coordinator disclosed that in the last two years, Jigawa State government has refunded over 700 million naira to the bank following the supply of substandard wheat seeds to farmers under anchor borrowers program while calling on the state ministries and agencies and other stakeholders to cooperate with the bank on loan recovery.

In his response, the Chairman of Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria represented by Mallam Muhammad thanked the government at both the state and federal level for their contribution and support to improve farming activities in the country.
