Scores Wounded As APC, PDP Supporters Clash In Ekiti

No fewer than 20 persons were yesterday wounded in Omuo Ekiti, headquarters of Ekiti East local government area of Ekiti State, as supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) clashed during a campaign rally held in the town.

 Suspected PDP thugs were alleged to have invaded joint rally being held by the APC senatorial candidate in Ekiti South District, Prince Dayo Adeyeye and the House of Representatives candidate in Ekiti South federal constituency, Hon Femi Bamisile and launched attacks on them.

Supporters of the Senate Minority Leader and senatorial candidate of the PDP in Ekiti South, Senator Biodun Olujimi were alleged to have carried out the attack.

Some APC supporters, Adeniyi Saliu , Kayode Ojo  and Adeniyi Ayo , who sustained deep cut in the heads ,  back  and stomach  , had  been referred to Ekiti State  University Teaching Hospital,  Ado Ekiti for intensive medical care.

The perpetrators of the attack, in which 15 others were also said to have been wounded, it was gathered, had fled the town while police have launched manhunt for them.

Bamisile who is a former Speaker of the State House of Assembly described the attack as unfortunate, barbaric and uncalled for, saying the desperation of some of the PDP members are becoming a threat to democracy and called on the security agencies in the state to apprehend the perpetrators.

“APC as a party will not fold arms and watch its members attacked by members of other political parties, hence the need for a strong warning to troublemakers to retrace their steps and allow peace to reign in the land,” he said.

But the special assistant, Media to Senator Olujimi on Public Communications, Chief Sanya Atofarati, who exonerated Olujimi and her supporters from the attack said the Senator had no cause to attack anybody.
