The Senate, during the constitution amendment plenary session on Tuesday, turned down the clause providing immunity for National Assembly Presiding Officers.

The decision was taken during the constitution review by the lawmakers.

The Bill seeks to alter the Provisions of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, to Expand Immunity to the Legislative and Judicial Arms of Government; and for Related Matters.

The Bill sought to confer immunity on the heads of the two Chambers and their deputies from prosecution.

While making this decision, 29 Senators voted in support while 59 voted against.

Also, the clause to grant life pension for Presiding Officers of the National Assembly was rejected after members voted.
