Kano singer, Magajiya Danbatta, has passed on.
She died on Friday evening
at her home in Dambatta, Kano State after a brief illness. She was 86.
The popular singer was reported to have gone blind due to an illness in 2019 and was seen begging for alms in Makoda village in Kano.
It was then that a public fund was set up for her house upkeep and daily survival.
The singer, who has since been forgotten, was unearthed by Mr Jaafar Jaafar and a renowned development worker, Musa Abdullahi Sufi.
According to a post made by Mr Jaafar on Facebook, it read, “I met with 84-year-old Magajiya Dambatta today at her home in Makoda, Kano. When I posted an old video of her stage performance yesterday, a friend at Radio Kano, Munzali Hausawa, told me she is still alive…”
In the post, he explained how he found the singer and how he decided to render the help especially since she has contributed to the society with her “melodic voice.”
The star rose to stardom from the 1970s to 1980s.
