Slain Army general laid to rest in Abuja

Major-General Hassan Ahmed, who was murdered in Abuja on Thursday night, has been buried at Lungi Barracks Cemetery, in the Federal Capital Territory.

Ahmed, who was recently appointed Director at Nigerian Army headquarters, was shot dead in Abaji area of the nation’s capital.

The assailants, according reports, also kidnapped a family member.

The deceased was said to be returning from Okene in Kogi State when he ran into an ambush.

In a statement, on Thursday night, Army Spokesman, Brig-Gen Onyema Nwachukwu, confirmed the death of Ahmed.

He said the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Farouk Yahaya, had already sent a delegation to condole with the victim’s family.

Nwachukwu also stated that members of the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA) led by the Deputy National President, Mrs Stella Omozoje, have also visited the family to condole with them.
