The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Muhammad Sa‘ad Abubakar, has confirmed Monday, June 19, 2023, as the first day of Zul-Hijjah 1444 AH.

Accordingly, Wednesday, June 28, 2023, will be the day of Eidul Adha 1444 AH.

Eid al-Adha, also known as Sallah, commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s readiness to sacrifice his son, Isma’il, in order to demonstrate his dedication to God.

It features the slaughtering of ram during the period known as the “festival of sacrifice.”

The celebration is the second significant religious festival in Islam, with the first being Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan.

A statement issued by the national moonsighting committee, reads: “The Sultanate Council Sokoto has declared Monday, 19/June/2023, as the first day of Zul-Hijjah 1444 AH. Accordingly, Wednesday 28/June/2023 will be the day of Eidul Adha 1444 AH.
