The Supreme Court, on Thursday, declared Ikechi Emenike, as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the March 11 governorship election in Abia State.

The apex court dismissed the appeals filed by a former Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development, Uchechukwu Sampson Ogah.

Both Ogah and Emenike on May 26, 2022, emerged as governorship candidates in a parallel primary election of the APC in Abia State.

While an Abia State High Court affirmed Emenike as the APC authentic candidate by backing the election that produced him, the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, presided by Justice Binta Nyako, declared Ogah as the duly elected governorship candidate of the APC in Abia State.

In three separate appeals filed by Emenike and Ogah, the appellate court ruled in favour of Emenike, affirming the findings of the Abia State High Court.

However, ruling on the appeal filed by Ogah, the apex court in the judgement read and prepared by Justice Adamu Jaro, dismissed the prayers sought by Ogah.

“There is nothing useful for the appellant to ask in the appeal. The appeal is therefore dismissed”, the apex court panel held, adding that the judgement shall be binding on the two other appeals on the matter.
