Benue State’s index COVID-19 patient,  Susan Okpe, has been released from isolation after 54 days.

Okpe attracted the sympathy of Nigerians after alleging that the Benue State Government wrongly declared her positive in March.

The 58-year-old who arrived Nigeria from the United Kingdom reportedly refused to be retested, clashing with authorities after her transfer to the Federal Capital Territory.

Amidst the uproar, Okpe’s family had backed the Federal Government for isolating the UK returnee.

In a statement signed by Bar Austin Lawani on May 7,  the family said the FG has “medical and legal reasons under extant laws for isolating any of her citizens”.

Okpe spent 54 days in facilities in Benue and Abuja, after first being quarantined March 27.
