Fast-rising singer, Fireboy DML, stole the spotlight on Sunday, winning five awards at the 14th Headies.
It was, however, not the same joy for superstars, Davido and Burna Boy, who despite six nominations apiece, failed to clinch any accolade.
Meanwhile, superstar Wizkid got lucky, he carted away with two awards; viewer’s choice awards and artiste of the year.
The ceremony which was supposed to take place last year December, got postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and held at the La Campagne Tropicana Beach Resort in Ibeju-Lekki.
Popular comedian, Bovi and TV personality and actress, Nancy Isime, hosted the event via the Headies’s official website.
According to the organiser of the award ceremony, Ayo Animashaun, it was difficult yet interesting producing the show. The CEO stated that although planning a virtual award is challenging, the show must go on.
The nominees were announced in December 2020, with Fireboy DML leading with nine nominations, while Burnaboy, Davido, Wizkid and Wurld followed with six nominations each.
Although many have anticipated the likes of Davido and Burna Boy taking the highest number of awards, the duo were left with no award as fast-rising singer, Fireboy dusted the table with four awards with Wizkid going home with two.
