Transport fare dropped by N10.85 in 2018 Dec.

The Transport fare watch report for December 2018 by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) showed that average fare paid by commuters for bus journey within the city decreased by -5.64 per cent month-on-month and increased by 5.99 per cent year-on-year to N181.61 in December 2018 from N192.46 in November 2018.

The Transport fare watch report covers bus journey within the city per drop constant route; bus journey intercity, state route, charge per person; air fare charge for specified routes single journey; journey by motorcycle (Okada) per drop; and water way passenger transport.

According to the report, Abuja FCT (N312.50), Cross River (N323.08) and Zamfara (N300.00) paid the highest bus fare within city were while Rivers (N128.13), Anambra (N125.79) and Bauchi (N100.00) paid the lowest bus journey fare.  


“Average fare paid by commuters for bus journey intercity decreased by -11.79% month-on-month and by 7.99% year-on-year to N1,579.11 in December 2018 from N1,790.14 in November 2018.

“States with highest bus journey fare intercity were Abuja FCT (N4,633.33), Borno (N2,500.00) and Adamawa (N2,275.00) while States with lowest bus journey fare within city were Nasarawa (N155.56), Plateau (N254.29) and Bauchi (N966.67),” the NBS said.


Average fare paid by air passengers for specified routes single journey decreased by -4.06% month-on-month and by -5.73 per cent year-on-year to N31,471.62 in December 2018 from N32,804.05 in November 2018. 

States with highest air fare were Lagos (N36,500.00), Abuja FCT (N38,500.00) and Jigawa (N38,500.00) while States with lowest air fare were Oyo (N25,000.00), Taraba (N25,500.00), and Katsina (N23,750.00).
