Two people have been confirmed dead as a fuel-laden tanker exploded along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in the early hours of Wednesday.

Reports claim that the truck carrying Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), known as petrol, exploded around 6:05am in front of CDK company, a few kilometres from the Sagamu interchange, along the highway.

About eight people and three vehicles were involved in the crash.

The spokesperson of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun State, Florence Okpe, confirmed the incident in Abeokuta on Wednesday.

He said the suspected cause of the multiple crash and explosions was overspeeding on the part of one of the trucks.

“The fire has been put off by Firefighters, traffic has been diverted to Ibadan-Lagos section and FRSC personnel on standby to clear the obstructions.

“Motorists are advised to drive cautiously, obey traffic rules and regulations,” Okpe said.
