A General in the Nigerian Army has been killed by terrorists alongside two Majors and two Captains, KAFTANPOST reports.

This happened as the convoy of the military chiefs was ambushed in Borno State.

A statement by Army spokesperson, Onyema Nwachukwu, had confirmed this report, stating that Brigadier General, Dzarma Zirkusu, and three other officers died in the attack.

The spokesman said the incident occurred in Askira Uba Local Government Area of the state.

The statement also said troops of the Joint Task Force, North East Operation HADIN KAI succeeded in neutralising several Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists in the process.

According to the statement, the Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen Faruk Yahaya deeply commiserates with the families and relations of the fallen heroes.

He has also directed that the troops continue in the ferocious counter offensive and hot pursuit to eliminate the remnant of the fleeing terrorists.

However, our sources gathered that there may actually be more fatalities in the attack that being reported by the Army.

While the military confirmed four deaths, our sources revealed that a senior general and two majors were also murdered.

This comes barely 24 hours after scores of ISWAP fighters were reported killed and many others injured by fighter jets of the Nigerian Air Force.

The terrorists were said to have been killed on Friday by sustained bombardments of the military jets, when they were holding a meeting with their new leader, Sani Shuwaram, at Sabon Tumbun and Jibularam, in Marte Local Government Area in Borno State.
