A Professor of Veterinary Anatomy at the University of Ibadan, Bankole Olusiji Oke, has died.

Prof Oke reportedly died of Covid-19 complications despite receiving two doses of the vaccine.

His death has again emphasised that vaccination against the contagion doesn’t necessarily mean immunity.

He was married to a former Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Gbemisola Oke, of the Department of Periodontology and Community Dentistry, Faculty of Dentistry, College of Medicine.

Born on March 31, 1953, Prof Oke obtained a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (1977); Master of Veterinary Anatomy (1983) and PhD (1988) in Reproductive Biology.

He then joined the services of the University of Ibadan as Lecturer II in the Department of Veterinary Anatomy in 1980 and rose to become a full-time professor in 1996.

He was elected the Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine for two terms (1999-2003).

Prof Oke also served as a member of the University of Ibadan Council for two terms from 2007 to 2015, representing the Senate of the institution.

  1. Aahh! Fear will not allow people to jettison this evil called Covid-19 vaccine. I won’t take it even at gun point. May his soul rest in peace. So unfortunate.

    • You won’t vaccinate? Then you are holding the gun to your own head. Not sure exactly what you first need to see or hear, before you will realize this. Good luck to you and your dependents.

    • Did he die because he took the vaccine? Knowing Nigeria, are you sure the clinic gave him the real vaccine? Even if he got the vaccine, that’s not a 100% guarantee against infection. Stop peddling ignorance. Go get yourself vaccinated, preferably with Pfizer or Moderna.

  2. Are you sure he didn’t die of other ailments? Covid-19 vaccine does not prevent heart attacks, diabetes, stroke and other terminal sicknesses. Until we ascertain what killed him, let us be cautious in discrediting Covid-19 vaccine.
