Afrobeat singer, Divine Ikubor, also known as Rema,has thrown a subtle shade at Burna Boy at the Headies 2023 event.
The artiste during his gratitude speech shaded Burna Boy for saying Afrobeats doesn’t have substance.
Recall that a few days ago, Burna Boy had trended for saying most Afrobeat singers do not have real-life experiences to bring to their songs so they lack substance.
He said he chose to create his own genre, Afro-fusion to be different.
In reaction to that, many celebrities have shown their distaste about the Grammy winner’s comment including Nollywood actor, Patrick Doyle and Joeboy.
Rema said all artistes need to support their own especially at a sensitive time like this period.
He said, “I am not here because of the award, I’m here because we need to support our institutions.
“We are in a very sensitive period that if we don’t give attention to our institutions, we will miss this chance that we have.
“Be it Afro Rave or Afro anything. We go all jam for Afrobeats award.”
