The Organised Labour under the aegis of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) of Nigeria, has vowed to proceed with a total, comprehensive and indefinite nationwide shutdown of the country, should there be another increase in the pump price of petrol.

NLC President, Joe Ajaero, gave the notification at the African Trade Union alliance meeting in Abuja, where Labour also warns against undermining the demands of the union.

The threat is coming amid reports of a possible hike in the price of petrol from N617 to N720.

This is coming after the National spokesperson of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Chinedu Ukadike, hinted at a possible fuel hike.

Ukadike, who spoke last Thursday, in Abuja said, “There will be a 10 percent increase because the dollar was N750, now is over N900 that is almost a 20% increase if you apply this, you should be talking about N750/ litre.

“Currently, the dollar rate at the parallel market as of today is N910 which also means that the landing cost of PMS will increase and also the domestic price of PMS will also increase.”
