First Lady Aisha Buhari says her husband, President Muhammadu Buhari supports the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), because of his belief in one Nigeria.
Aisha Buhari made the statement at the flag-off of special medical outreaches under the Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers (HIRD) organized in commemoration of the Scheme’s 50th anniversary on Tuesday in Abuja.
She commended the scheme for its efforts in promoting national unity and urged Nigerians to support the NYSC in achieving its objectives.
In her words, “Mr. President is particularly passionate about the NYSC. His support for this scheme is driven by his belief in one Nigeria and sincere appreciation of the contribution of these young men and women to this effect.
“The first family always treat corps members in Daura, Katsina state to presidential reception during festive periods like Sallah, Ramadan, and Christmas.”
In his address at the event, the Director-General of NYSC, Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed, disclosed that over three million Nigerians have benefited from the HIRD initiative.
He stated that the medical outreaches were aimed at bringing healthcare services closer to rural communities, particularly those in hard-to-reach areas.
