Grammy award-winning artiste, Ayodeji Balogun, also known as Wizkid, has received a Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) gold certification for his hit song, Essence.

The song had also featured rising star, Tems.

The win was announced by his manager, Jada Pollock, on her Instagram page today, September 9.

According to the post, it is to be released on October 29, 2021.

The song was the 11th song on the studio album ‘Made in Lagos’, which was released in October 2020.

Wizkid made history in July becaming the first African artiste with a record on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart with the same song.

He also received recognition by Shazam, who stated that the song is the most ‘shazamed’ song in the US.

Recall that the singer’s ‘Come Closer’ where he featured Canadian rapper, Drake, was certified platinum and gold in the UK and Australia respectively in April, 2021.

This makes ‘Essence’ the singer’s second song to receive such mind blowing achievement this year.

The song, ‘Come Closer’, also was certified gold in the US after 500,000 units were sold in 2020, making him the first African singer ever to have achieved the feat.
