The Jigawa Command of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has advised parents not to allow their underage children to drive cars or ride motorcycles before, during and after the upcoming Christmas celebrations in the state.

The FRSC Sector Commander in the state, Mr Shamsiddeen Sale, gave the advice in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Dutse.

Sale said the advice became necessary considering the increasing number of accidents resulting in loss of lives and properties associated with allowing underage children to drive cars or ride motorcycles.
“We want to advise parents not to allow their underage children to drive vehicles in the name of celebration.
“What we’re more concerned with in Jigawa is underage children riding motorcycles during festive period.
“So parents should ensure that none of their underage children do so; so as to reduce the rate of accidents usually recorded during festive periods,” Sale pleaded.
The sector commander assured the public that the command would ensure strict compliance with the traffic rules and regulations, adding that defaulters would be penalised.
According to him, parents should only release their cars/motorcycles to their children who are 18 years of age and beyond and have been certified by a government recognised driving school.
He said that the command had taken all necessary measures to ensure a hitch and accident-free celebration in the state.
