The Ondo State House of Assembly, on Friday, enjoined religious leaders in the country to always promote peaceful co-existence in their communities, irrespective of their religious affiliations.

Mrs Favour Tomomewo, the House Committee Chairman on Women Affairs and Social Development, said that it was imperative for them to always champion peaceful co-existence in the country.

Tomomewo made the appeal when she led members of her committee on a familiarisation visit to the Ondo State Christian and Muslim Welfare Boards.

‘’Nothing should cause conflict between both religions because we are brothers and sisters. I charge you to do more in ensuring peace in the state and Nigeria at large.

“It is the responsibility of religious leaders to guide against religion conflicts to ensure security of lives and property. Ethnic and religious conflicts must be tackled headlong,’’ she said.

The lawmaker enjoined the boards’ chairmen to always exude the qualities of ambassadors of peace in their communities and wherever they might find themselves, adding they should preach peace at all times.

She commended the chairmen of both boards on their efforts so far at promoting peaceful co-existence in the state.

The Chairman of the Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Alh. Khaleel Fawehinmi, said that the state government had laid a solid foundation for inter-religious relations in the state.
