An Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court on Thursday sentenced two men, Adereti Richard, 62; and Komolafe Micheal, 58; to three years imprisonment each with hard labour for conspiracy and stealing.

The Magistrate, Mr Joseph Owolawi, however, gave the convicts an option of N30,000 fine each.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the convict were arraigned on June 4, 2018 and pleaded not guilty to a three-count charge of conspiracy, fraud and stealing.

The Prosecutor, Insp Sunday Osanyintuyi, had told the court that the duo committed felony to wit: obtaining money under false pretences.

Osanyintuyi said that the defendants intended to defraud by obtaining the sum of N5 million from Mrs Abiodun Olabani, with the pretence to sell a building situated at Ikoyi Quarters, Ile-Ife to her, which they failed to do.

According to him, the duo stole a property worth N5 million belonging to Mrs Abiodun Olabanjo.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Sections 383, 309 (9), 419 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.
