245 new COVID-19 cases push Nigeria’s total to 7,261 as Lagos’ fresh 131 show runaway infections failing to abate

Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Friday confirmed 245 new cases of COVID-19 in the country, bringing the total number of infections to 7261.

This was announced via NCDC Twitter handle on Friday night.

The 245 new cases of coronavirus are recorded as follows: 131-Lagos 16-Jigawa 13-Ogun 12-Borno 9-Kaduna 9-Oyo 9-Rivers 9-Ebonyi 8-Kano 7-Kwara 5-Katsina 3-Akwa Ibom.

Others are 3-Sokoto 2-Bauchi 2-Yobe 1-Anambra 1-Gombe 1-Niger 1-Ondo 1-Plateau 1-FCT 1-Bayelsa.

According to NCDC, while 2007 cases have been discharged, 10 more patients died of coronavirus-related complications in the last twenty-four hours.

Meanwhile in Lagos State, the situation shows no sign of abating as another 131 new cases were recorded in the state on Friday.

Lagos now has 3,109 confirmed cases, 2,383 active and 662 discharged.

Akin Abayomi, the Lagos State Commissioner for Health, while given the update on Friday on his official twitter handle, announced that four more patients have died from coronavirus infection in Lagos State.

However, details of the deaths were not disclosed by the commissioner.

As of Friday, 46 people have died from COVID-19 infection in Lagos, and 211 people across Nigeria.

“Four more COVID-19 related deaths were recorded in Lagos bringing the total of such deaths to 46. Our toll free helpline 08000CORONA is still very active, just call it to report any COVID-19 issue,” he wrote.
