The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has announced 38 new cases of COVID-19 in the country.

With the sharp rise in infected persons recorded in recent days, Monday’s numbers came with a soothing feeling among Nigerians.

If anything, it shows that the nation is gradually getting acquainted with high figures.

Surprisingly, though, Lagos, the epicentre of the Coronavirus infection in the country didn’t record any new case.

Even more shocking is the fact that most Lagosians are still going about their daily lives despite the lockdown, as captured in pictures of a gridlock around Third Mainland Bridge that flooded social media.

Barely 24 hours after the nation’s commercial capital witnessed 70 cases in one day, Lagos was relatively quiet on the virus infection front, with states like Abia and Sokoto recording their index cases.

Of the 38 new cases, Kano witnessed a baptism of fire with 23 and while Gombe picked up a quintet at once, Abia started with a double.

Kaduna (3), Borno (2), FCT (1), Sokoto (1) and Ekiti (1) completed the fresh infections.

With the new cases, Nigeria’s overall toll climbed to 665.

The nation suffered one fatality, now 22 while 18 persons recovered, totalling 188.
