Four men on Wednesday appeared in an Ota Magistrates’ Court, in Ogun, for allegedly stealing iron rods valued at N600,000.
The defendants, Thomas Segun, 40, Samuel Ayuba, 25, Bashiru Idris, 28, and Makinde Samuel, 49, whose addresses were not provided, were arraigned on charges of stealing and conspiracy.
The prosecutor, Insp Cynthia Ejezie, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on Nov. 6, at about 7.00 p.m. at Km 7, Idiroko area, the Bells, Ota, Ogun.
Ejezie alleged that Segun stole iron rods valued at N600, 000 from the site of the complainant Elizabeth Olaniyi, and brought the stolen goods to the other defendants to dispose of.
She said that the offences contravened sections 390 (9) and 516 of the Criminal Code, Vol.1, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the offences.
The Magistrate, Mr Shotunde Shotayo, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
Shotayo said that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and should be gainfully employed.
She held that the sureties should show evidence of tax payment to Ogun State Government and adjourned the case until Dec.20, for further hearing.
