The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has confirmed 556 new cases of COVID-19 in the country, bringing the total number to 36,663.
While Edo State led the pack with 104, Lagos which has remained the epicentre of the pandemic recorded 97. Federal Capital Territory also recorded 66 new cases.
Available statistics also show that 212,201 tests have been carried out in the country so far.
The NCDC made the announcement on Sunday night via its Twitter handle.
“On the 19th of July 2020, 556 new confirmed cases and 11 deaths were recorded in Nigeria. Till date, 36663 cases have been confirmed, 15105 cases have been discharged and 789 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
“The 556 new cases are reported from 18 states; Edo-104, Lagos-97, FCT-70, Benue-66, Oyo-61, Kaduna-38, Plateau-28, Osun-19, Akwa Ibom-14, Rivers-13, Katsina-13, Ondo-13, Ogun-6, Kano-5, Nasarawa-4, Gombe-2, Ekiti-2, Borno-1,” the NCDC said.
Meanwhile, Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Professor Akin Abayomi, on Sunday announced that 24% of the conducted in the state so far have returned positive.
Making the announcement via his verified twitter handle on Sunday, Abayomi said 54,570 tests have been conducted.
He said while 2,141 of those positive cases refused to be admitted to the state isolation centres, 191 fatalities have been recorded in the state.
“The total number of confirmed COVID-19 positive cases in Lagos now stands at 13,346. Total number of COVID-19 tests conducted so far in Lagos now stands at 54,570.
“2,069 of the confirmed cases have since been discharged from COVID-19 care centres following full recovery; 8,781 of the confirmed cases monitored in communities by COVID-19 Lagos response team have either fully recovered or positively responding to treatments; 164 of the cases are currently under isolation in public and private care centres; 2,141 active cases in communities have yet to turn up for admission in COVID-19 Lagos care centres.
“One additional COVID-19 related death was recorded, bringing the total COVID-19 related deaths in Lagos to 191,” he said.
