What’s your body type? Do you even know there are different types of bodies? Well, we learn everyday right?

But before we go into the topic. You should know that all body types, shapes and sizes are beautiful. You should own it. There is a name for your body size and that means it’s important.

Bodies come in different sizes and the unique part is there is always a dress type to suit every body, size, and shape.

There are five common types, shapes or sizes.

The Pear shape
The Kim K type of body is the pear shape. The bust and waist are much smaller compared to the hips and butt. More like a triangle. You can also see this shape in Nollywood actress, Omotola Jalade Ekeinde.

The Hourglass
This is the Mercy Johnson type of body. We can all agree that the body is built like the hourglass itself. With a tiny and well defined waist with two nearly equal lower and upper regions.

The Rectangular shape
This shape is when the bust equals the waist and hips. A straight shape.

Round shape
Just like the name, this is a rounded shape where the shoulders are often broad, and the bust equals the butt. It is often seen in thick women.

Inverted triange or apple shape
This shape is when the bust and shoulder size are bigger than the hips and butt. i.e instead of a triangle or pear shape, it’s the opposite. They are much larger on the upper region of the body.

How to dress for your body type

Many have tried to look the same with other people over the years, wearing the same type of cloth just because your best friend is wearing it or because it’s the latest in vogue.

A lot of people end up looking weird in expensive and supposed classy outfits just because they didn’t follow their body types. This can often low self-esteem especially if you find yourself making the same mistakes repeatedly.

These tips would work if you try them out.

Pear shape
If you feel you have the Kim Kardashian body, it’s time to shift your attention to outfits she wears. It doesn’t have to be the exact type, always remember to slay according to your pocket. For a pear body, your thighs, butt and hips are larger, so wide-legged pants. A-line skirts, skinny jeans with loose tops are your go to. Shift your attention upward. A deep cut or V neck top will take the attention to your bust. Avoid loose bottoms, it will make you look bigger.

Hourglass
It’s a perfect body but you can still dress wrong. It’s the most balanced body shape. Dresses like bodycons that clinch the waist, dresses with belts will accentuate your waistline. This doesn’t have many cons as it embraces many styles. You have the body, flaunt it!

The Rectangular shape
When you think of Taylor Swift and Jada Pinkett Smith, think of outfits they wear. Flaunt your shoulders, arms and legs. A free romper is perfect. Ruffled and layered tops, strapless, sleeveless tops will add weight to the upper region. The idea is to show your beautiful arms. Avoid baggy styles unless there is someone to help you carry the excess weight behind you.

Round shape
Just because you have a thick round shape doesn’t mean you should wear baggy clothes. Infact run away from them. You will only make things worse. Free dresses and maxi gowns are perfect. It doesn’t have a waistline or cut to it. A flare dress, a shirt dress and dresses to show your legs are ok. Keep the legs well shaved and greased and do your model thing. The world is your runway.

Apple body shape
Since your bust and shoulders are bigger than the rest of your body, a V neck top will create an elongated illusion to your torso. It will take the attention to a bit of your cleavage down to your waist. Do less with the waist and more with the lower region to balance the proportion. A flare skirt, gown or palazzo trousers will do justice to your body. You can opt for a long neck piece on your outfit if you are not comfortable with exposing the cleavage. Rock your bust with pride.
