The abductors of a military officer earlier reported to have been whisked away by unknown gunmen in the Akoko area of Ondo State were alleged to have demanded a ransom of N20 million before he is made to regain his freedom.

It would be recalled that the abductee, Captain Gana, was kidnapped around the Auga-Akoko axis while traveling alone in his car en route Abuja to Ibadan.

The latest update however unfolded last night when rumors made the rounds that the abductors made a demand of N20 million before the Captain was freed.

Speaking to KaftanPost correspondent on the issue, the Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Police Force in Ondo State, ASP Tee-leo Ikoro, narrated how the men who ambushed in a nearby forest along the road, suddenly came out and stopped the officer’s vehicle. When he came out to confront them, they reportedly pulled out their arms and marched him into a forest at the boundary of Ondo-Edo states around Ibilo.

After much search, the policemen and military officers in a joint effort, eventually got him rescued in a forest along the Ondo-Benin road.

He, however, debunked the rumor that the abductors earlier made a demand of N20 million.

According to him, “there was no such demand. Kidnappers will not ask for money from the police or the military. The Captain has been successfully rescued”, he noted.

Meanwhile, the monarch of the community where the incident occurred, the Alauga of Auga Akoko, Oba Samuel Agunloye, said he was not aware of the abduction but confirmed that federal roads around his domain were porous and very prone to kidnapping.

Confirming the incident to KaftanPost, the spokesman of the Nigerian Army 32 Artillery Brigade, Akure, Captain Ayorinde Omojokun, said security agencies who were deployed to rescue the officer were able to succeed at rescuing him alive with no ransom paid.
