Rev. Fr Luka Yakusak, the priest in charge of St. Mathew’s Catholic Church, Anchuna in Zango-Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State, has regained his freedom following his abduction on Monday night.

Yakusak was released “barely 24 hours” after he was taken captive, according to a statement today by the Chancellor of Kafanchan Catholic Diocesel, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Okolo.

Okolo thanked all for their concern while offering prayers to God to hasten the release of other victims in kidnappers’ dens.

Yakusak was kidnapped in Anchuna village, Ikulu Chiefdom, hometown of the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Mathew Kukah, whose brother was also abducted in the past.

“Barely 24 hours after his kidnap, our beloved brother priest was released by his abductors,” the statement by the chancellor read.

“We want to thank all those that have offered prayers and entreaties for the quick release of our Brother Priest and Others who are still in the dens of their kidnappers. We pray God to hasten the release of those who are still in the hands of their Captors.

“All our Priests are directed to kindly celebrate Mass of Thanksgiving to God tomorrow, Wednesday 15th September 2021, for the quick and safe release of our Brother, Fr. Benson.”
