Nollywood actress, Nkechi Blessing, has reacted to the announcement made by owner of Facebook and Instagram (Meta), Mark Zuckerberg, to launch a paid subscription service of $11.99 monthly.
According to the statement released on his Facebook account, the subscription will be for those who are verified and wish to be verified on the apps.
This is shortly after the CEO of Twitter, Elon Musk, initiated the same policy on his app.
The policy will be made to roll out first in Australia and New Zealand this week and others will follow suit. The policy will allow interested users in the ages of 18 and above to verify their account using a government ID, get a blue badge and other benefits
An excerpt of the statement read, “… verify your account with a government ID, get a blue badge, get extra impersonation protection against accounts claiming to be you, and get direct access to customer support.
“This new feature is about increasing authenticity and security across our services.”
The service is not open to business accounts for now.
In reaction to this, Nkechi Blessing on her Instagram page said everyone on the app will be equal. She said no one would feel special or a type of way because of the blue badge.
According to her, the policy will also reduce the way people see verified accounts as wealthy persons.
She wrote, “Verification don turn 3 for 10kobo. At least we all go dey the same level. You no go dey look me like say I get money because of verification.
“Get urs for just $11. Mark do this one. Walahi this one sweet me. Like this so, if I not get $11, my badge is gone! Wahalaur!”
