The Chairman of Ondo State Muslim Welfare board and close ally of Governor Akeredolu, Alhaji Fawehinmi, is dead.
This was made public in a press statement from the Ondo government and obtained by KaftanPost correspondent as signed by the Senior Special Assistant (Research & Documentation) to Ondo State government, Mr. Kunle Adebayo.
The statement titled, “A Gem is Lost”, reads:
“Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN received with disbelief and heavy heart, the sad news of the demise of Alhaji Fawehinmi, Chairman, Ondo state Mulsim Welfare Board and Co-Chairman religious Thanksgiving sub-Committee of his 2nd term inauguration. He died yesterday in the United States of America after a brief Illness.
“His death is no doubt a huge loss to the family and to Ondo State Government which he served diligently and meritoriously until the bell sounded”.
Describing the deceased, it further read; “Khaleel Fawehinmi was not just the Seriki Adinni Musulumi of Ondo State, he was a good human being and a great patriot who dedicated totally his life and times to the best service of his community and our state as a whole.”
According to the statement, “Governor Akeredolu particularly views this death as a personal loss of a completely loyal and reliable friend of over 25 years, It is the loss of the warmth of a true brother and supporter whose devotion and commitment to Akeredolu’s personal and public aspirations was first class and total.
“Seriki’s death, coming not long after the demise of his illustrious wife, no doubt bears a huge burden of grief on the immediate family.”
Ending the statement, he finally noted; “Governor Akeredolu, on behalf of the Government and people of Ondo state therefore commiserates with the immediate family, Ondo community and the entire muslim community in the state. He prays Almighty Allah forgives the deceased of all his trespasses and grant him Aljannah Fidau.”
Confirming the actual cause of his death, KaftanPost learnt that the Ondo-born technocrat who was a graduate of Howard University, U.S.A, died in the United States of America after a brief illness.
Other sources within Ondo state also confirmed to KaftanPost that he passed away on Friday evening.
One of his close friends posted on Facebook:
“Our own Alhaji Khaleel Fawehinmi, Seriki Agba of Ondo State Muslims, is gone! We love you but Allah loves you more. You never bid us farewell, but can we blame God? You will forever remain in our hearts.”
