The Federal High Court, Abuja has granted a medical leave to former Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Mohammed Adoke.

Justice Inyang Ekwo, in a ruling on Friday, rejected the objection raised by a lawyer to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Bala Sanga and permitted Adoke permission to travel to the United Arab Emirate (UAE) for medical checkup.

Another former AGF, Kanu Agabi, SAN had prayed Justice Ekwo on Adoke’s request.

The judge maintained that it was within the court’s discretion to determine whether or not to grant such an application.

The judge therefore, directed the release of the ex-AGF’s international passport to enable him travel for medical treatment from December 15 and return on January 10, 2021, a day before the scheduled resumption of trial in the money laundering charge involving him and a businessman, Aliyu Abubakar.

Justice Ekwo ordered Adoke to return the international passport to the court within two days of his return for the foreign trip.

The judge adjourned the matter until January 11 for trial continuation with the assumption that Adoke would have returned.

Adoke and Abubakar are being tried by the EFCC on a 14-count charge of money laundering
