An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday ordered that a 42-year-old man, Ramoni Amure, who allegedly raped an 18-year-old girl, be remanded in Kirikiri correctional facility, pending legal advice.

The police charged Amure, who resides at No. 98 Okesuna St., Lagos Island, Lagos, with rape.

Chief Magistrate P.E. Nwaka, who did not take the plea of Amure, ordered the police to return the case file to the Lagos Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.

Nwaka adjourned the case until September 23, for mention.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Christopher John, told the court that Amure committed the offence on December 22, 2018 at his residence.

John alleged that Amure, who raped the girl when she was 16, continued to sexually assault her.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 260 of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2015.

The Section 250 stipulates life imprisonment for rape.
