Another Osun palace has been set ablaze by angry youths just days after Ikirun palace was equally destroyed with fire.

On Thursday evening, some angry youths had set the Palace of Aree of Iree in Boripe North Local Council Development Area of Osun, on fire around 7pm.

According to reports, the palace was set on fire over the youths displeasure on the arrest of the Aogun of Iree, Chief Soliy Atoyebi, on Thursday morning by security officials.

The youths who were strategic about their plans had waited till the king had left the palace to destroy the building.

They also blocked major roads leading to town leading to chaos in the town. Shops were locked and residents were forced to stay indoors.

The Osun Police Spokesperson, SP Yemisi Opalola, was not available for comments, as her phone was switched off.

Reports stated that since the Aree of Iree, Ponle Ademola had been made king, there had been palpable fear in Iree Town. The reports went further to reveal that the people believe that the administration of the past governor forced the leadership of Ponle on them.

According to NAN, Gov. Ademola Adeleke on Monday had issued an Executive order, setting aside the appointment and enthronement of three traditional rulers, Aare of Iree; Akirun of Ikirun and Owa of Igbajo.

The order also directed that the palaces of the three traditional rulers be locked up, while security agents were meant to take charge of the palaces to prevent breakdown of law and order.
