About 50 passengers have been reportedly kidnapped by bandits on Tuesday, along the Tegina-Minna road in the Rafi local government area of Niger State.

According to the report, the bandits blocked the road at Kundu town, a few kilometres from Zungeru town when three commercial vehicles were stopped and the passengers and drivers whisked away.

The whereabouts of the victims are still unknown as there is no official report on the unfortunate incident at press time.

In a separate attack, another group of bandits are reported to have kidnapped an unspecified number of villagers at Gidigori town in the same local government on the same day.

They were said to have burnt five cars and carted away valuables during the raid.

There have been a drastic rise in the reported cases of kidnapping in Niger State over the past few weeks.

Students have been kidnapped in Niger and Zamfara states respectively, with President Muhammadu Buhari earlier boasting that the Zamfara attack will be the last to be witnessed in the country.
