Nollywood star, Olanrewaju Omiyinka, aka Baba Ijesha, has pleaded not guilty to rape allegation levelled against him.
Appearing before the Lagos State Special Offences Court on Thursday, state counsel, Mrs Olayinka Adeyemi, said the court had filed six-count charges against the defendant.
She said this when she appeared before Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo.
But Baba Ijesha pleaded not guilty to all the charges levelled against him.
Adeyemi asked that the defendant remain in prison till a new trial date.
Baba Ijesha’s legal team, led by two Senior Advocates of Nigeria, Babatunde Ogala and Dada Awosika, along with 17 others, whowever, kicked, informing the court that they have filed a bail application.
In her defense, Mrs Adeyemi opposed the prayer stating the need to verify Baba Ijesha’s medical reports which is the sole reason for their bail application.
Justice Taiwo gave room for both the defense counsel and state counsel to argue Baba Ijesha’s bail application.
During the argument of the bail application, Ogala urged the court to grant Baba Ijesha bail, relying on Section 36(5) of the Constitution.
According to Ogala, the defendant also ought to be granted bail considering his popularity and the credible sureties provided.
