The BET Awards 2022 hosted by American actress, Taraji P. Henson, was aired live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, June 26, 2022.
The award night which celebrates Black excellence in music, sports, movies and other things has come and gone.
There were performances from Giveon, Ella Mei, Latto, and others, however some stood out either by its creativity, choreography or stage mistakes. These performances got people talking on their various social media platforms.
LIZZO
The American singer, Melissa Viviane Jefferson, also known as Lizzo, kick started the show with her latest single ‘About Damn Time’. The plus-size bag of talents performed with a group of dancers, male and female in gold attires. She also performed using her infamous flute.
KIRK FRANKLIN AND MAVERICK CITY MUSIC
The Gospel performance had a wonderful and powerful performance of their songs ‘KINGDOM’ and ‘MELODIES FROM HEAVEN’. Kirk was dressed in a red emblem while the rest of the crew were in casuals including the Maverick City music.
JACK HARLOW
The rapper performed two songs and although his stage performance was questioned due to the lack of energy and enthusiasm from the crowd and his songs, he surprised his fans by bringing two legends out. His song ‘What’s Poppin’ featuring Lil Wayne brought the legend out. His biggest surprise was Brandy appearing out of nowhere to rap a verse from the song. Recall that just weeks ago, Brandy had come hard for Jack Harlow who had pointed out that he had no idea Brandy was Ray J.’s sister. It seems like they had settled their scuffle with the performance.
FIREBOY DML
Our Afrobeat star, Adedamola Adefolahan, from Nigeria, had performed his two hit singles, PLAYBOY and PERU. His songs had gotten his recognition and support from the crowd who sang along with some. He had started with Playboy and was seen rocking a bunch of female dancers. He then quickly switched to Peru which had ignited the energy in the hall.
LATTO
American rapper, Alyssa Michelle Stephens, also known as Latto, made her big energy known with her performance. Dressed in a black playsuit adorned with jewelry and designs, Latto took to the stage to give a worthwhile performance. Just like Jack Harlow, she had surprised her fans and the audience with the presence of Mariah Carey who was featured in the ‘BIG ENERGY’ song.
DIDDY
The legendary rapper and producer, Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs was honoured with the ‘Lifetime achievement award and notable legends came out to sing their verses in honour of Diddy. Musicians like Lil Kim, Mary J.Blige, Nas, Busta Rhymes, Bryson Tiller, others came out to support the singer.
Rapper and business mogul, Kanye West, and another entertainer, BlueFace, presented the award to Diddy. Diddy also gave a wonderful tribute to his ex-girlfriend, Kim Porter, who died of lobar pneumonia three years ago.
Other mind-boggling performances include Chloe Bailey, Doechii with ‘Persuasive’, Doni Long with ‘Hrs and Hrs’, Chance The Rapper & Joey Badass with ‘The Highs and The Lows’ and others.
