Senator Diri Douye of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been sworn in as governor of Bayelsa State even as the initial winners of the 2019 governorship election, David Lyon and the All Progressives Congress (APC) still insist they hold the mandate to rule the state.
Following the gubernatorial election conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on November 16th 2019, Lyon was declared winner by the electoral body, but Supreme Court, ruling on the appeal by Douye and the PDP on Thursday, nullified Lyon’s election and pronounced Douye Governor-elect.
